JOHOR: The Royal Family of Johor will not be holding its customary Hari Raya Open House for the public this year, Sultan Ibrahim Ismail announced in a Facebook post on Thursday (Jan 16).
"While the Royal Family enjoys every opportunity to be close to the public, especially during Hari Raya Aidil Fitri, this year the Sultan and the Permaisuri of Johor would like to spend Hari Raya privately with their family, in memory of their late son, Almarhum Tunku Laksamana Johor," said the Facebook post.
Johor prince Tunku Abdul Jalil died of cancer in December last year at the age of 25.
"His birthday falls on the 5th of July - the last day of Ramadan - and it will be an especially poignant and difficult time as the Sultan and his family mourn him," it said on the Facebook post.
According to the post, Johor Royal Family will instead perform the Raya prayers at the mosque before visiting the Royal Mausoleum to recite the Surah Yassin for the late Tunku Abdul Jalil, after which they will head for a private lunch.
"The Sultan of Johor, the Permaisuri of Johor, together with their family, hope that those who had hoped to visit them will understand and respect their wishes to have some private time together," it added.
